How to report it
Email corrections@filemyaccident.com with the page address and what is wrong. If you have a link to the statute, the agency page or the rule that says otherwise, include it and we will get there faster.
What we do with it
We treat a wrong statement about the law as the most serious kind of error here, because somebody may act on it. Those come first.
- A wrong legal fact. We check it against the primary source. If we were wrong, we fix the value, update the date the fact was verified, and note the change on the page.
- A fact that has since changed. Same process. Legislatures move these numbers, and a value that was right two years ago is still wrong today.
- A broken or moved source link. We repoint it at the current official location rather than at a copy of it.
- A typo or a confusing sentence. Fixed quietly, with no note.
What we will not do
We do not remove a page because somebody dislikes what the law says, and we do not soften an accurate statement because it is inconvenient for an advertiser. If an attorney who pays us asks for a factual page to be changed and it is correct as written, it stays as written.
Why the dates on our pages matter
Every legal fact on this site records when it was last checked against its source, and that date is shown to you. A fact nobody has rechecked in over a year raises a warning in our build. We do not clear it by editing the date.
